Healthy snacks list

It is that time of year again and the kids are headed back to school. Send them off the healthy way with a great breakfast and power packed lunch and snacks. Studies have shown that nutrient rich snacks, breakfasts and lunches keep the mind focused and behavior on track!

Here is a list of the Top 10 Healthy snacks that are Registered Dietitian approved. 

1.    Yogurt parfait (layer any low fat yogurt, fruit and granola)
2.    Smoothies (blend together low fat yogurt or milk, avocado or spinach, berries and juice)
3.    Dip a peeled banana in yogurt then roll it in crushed whole grain cereal and freeze it.
4.    Stuff a whole grain pita pocket with low fat ricotta cheese, 1 teaspoon honey and sliced apples or pears
5.    Pretzels stick kabob. Spear cheese cubes and chopped fruit on pretzel sticks. Dip in low fat yogurt
6.    Spread mustard or low fat ranch on a slice of deli turkey. Wrap around a honey wheat pretzel stick
7.    Trail mix – Dried cranberries, or blueberries, small crackers or pretzels, seeds and nuts.
8.    Fruit pizza (spread low fat cream cheese on a whole grain tortilla and top with chopped seasonal fruit)
9.    Dip graham crackers in applesauce

10. Tortilla pockets- slice up a banana, spread nut butter on a whole wheat tortilla, layer the bananas and drizzle with a small amount of honey.
